DISCIPLE FORCE MINISTRY UPDATE: Since its inception the St. Ambrose Church Disciple Force Ministry has concentrated on supporting members of the military and their families by offering spiritual and material support while they were on active duty. In the past we have helped with tuition assistance at St. Ambrose School for children of those parents who were deployed, mailing out care packages to deployed troops during Christmas, taking part in work projects with the local Fisher House providing a place to stay while a family member goes through rehabilitation, and organizing an annual Veteran's Day Dinner/Tribute for current and retired military members and their immediate family.
Now we face different challenge. Many service men and women are completing their tours of duty and are returning to civilian life. As a country we owe them much; more than we can ever say or do. However, we will try. Our goals are now to help them as they transition back to everyday life. A few weeks ago we put together a survey to see where we could best meet their needs in the future. The answers were clear and to the point; 1. Employment, 2. Assistance with any P.T.S.D. issues, 3. Medical referrals, and 4. Spiritual needs of the individual and family.
We are now in the process of becoming a resource center in the parish for those current and former military members to come for information. Likewise, if members of the parish find a company, foundation, informational website that would be of assistance please contact Lowell or Judy Locke at 281.890.9709. We will follow up with your lead and add it to our list.
Our annual Veterans Day Dinner/Tribute will take place on Sunday, November 10th from 4:00-6:00 PM in the school cafeteria. Mark this on your calendar. Details to follow.
